Jeurys Familia Notches 16th Save In Toronto
6 years agoOn June 27, New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia endured one of the worst outings of his career when he blew a save against the Pittsburgh Pirates by allowing four earned runs on three hits and a walk without recording a single out. He’s now pitched twice since that nightmare, and so far those terrible results have not lingered. After tossing a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts against the Miami Marlins on July 1 for his 15th save, Familia made it 16 by throwing another perfect frame against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. He didn’t strike anyone out this time but made quick work of the Jays on 10 pitches. Familia is prone to a blowup every now and then but should continue to be one of the more reliable closers throughout the rest of the season.
