Jesus Aguilar Scores A Run And Plays Third Base On Tuesday
4 years agoMiami Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar got a hit and scored a run on Tuesday, ending up 1-for-4. He played third base in the bottom of the eighth inning and made an outstanding barehanded play on a ground ball to end the inning. With Miguel Rojas getting the day off, Luis Marte played shortstop. He was pinch hit for by Magneuris Sierra (who has 100 at bats this season and has yet to record an RBI!) and then Sierra was replaced by Garrett Cooper in the lineup. Cooper went in to play first base, with Jon Berti moving from third base to shortstop, and Aguilar moving from first base to third base. Third base has been an issue for the Marlins all season, with Brian Anderson (shoulder) struggling then getting injured, but Aguilar is unlikely to amass enough innings there to get fantasy eligibility at the position.

Braves Sign Jesus Aguilar To Minor-League Deal
2 years agoThe Atlanta Braves signed free-agent first baseman Jesus Aguilar to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. The Oakland Athletics released Aguilar in early June after he hit just .221 (23-for-104) with two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in 36 games for them to begin the year. The 32-year-old right-handed slugger will most likely report to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he will serve as organizational first-base depth. As long as Matt Olson remains healthy at the big-league level, the Braves probably won't have much use for Aguilar. He was an All-Star back in 2018 with the Milwaukee Brewers when he hit 35 home runs and drove in 108 runs, but he hasn't come close to producing similar numbers since.

A's Designate Jesus Aguilar For Assignment
2 years agoThe Oakland Athletics designated first baseman/designated hitter Jesus Aguilar for assignment on Monday, according to sources. Aguilar gets the boot off the team's 40-man roster after hitting .221 (23-for-104) with two doubles, five home runs and nine RBI in 36 games played. He had walked eight times and struck out 31 times in 115 trips to the plate. The 32-year-old veteran slugger could latch on elsewhere, though, as an option against left-handed pitching. Against southpaws so far in 2023, Aguilar hit .280 with four home runs and eight RBI in 50 at-bats. He can continue to go ignored in mixed fantasy leagues, though.

Jesus Aguilar Hits Fifth Home Run Sunday
2 years agoOakland Athletics first baseman Jesus Aguilar went 2-for-4 with his fifth home run of the season, two RBI, a run scored and a strikeout in the team's 5-4 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. While there isn't much fantasy upside from a counting-stats perspective with A's hitters, Aguilar has been solid in the early going in his first year in Oakland. The 32-year-old veteran Venezuelan slugger is batting .270 (20-for-74) with two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored in 82 plate appearances and 23 games, although he also has 21 strikeouts and only five walks. Aguilar has six multi-hit games in the early going.

Jesus Aguilar To Split Time At First Base, DH
2 years agoOakland Athletics general manager David Forst said he expects the newly signed Jesus Aguilar to split his time in 2023 at first base and designated hitter in an everyday role, similar to what he was doing last year with the Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles. The 32-year-old right-handed slugger spent most of his time with the Fish (113 games) and finished with a .235/.281/.379 slash line, .661 OPS, 16 home runs, 51 RBI, 39 runs scored and a stolen base in 507 plate appearances over 129 combined games. Aguilar still has some pop in his bat, but he'll provide little else while moving to a weak lineup in one of the most pitcher-friendly home ballparks in baseball. He can be avoided in shallow mixed leagues.
