Jesse Chavez Moving Into Rotation
5 years agoTexas Rangers pitcher Jesse Chavez will move into the starting rotation and replace Joe Palumbo, who was optioned to the minors on Thursday after a disastrous second start in the big leagues. Chavez (3.18 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) is certainly a better option than Palumbo for now. The veteran 35-year-old right-hander has experience starting games (74 career starts) but probably won't strike many out while opening up games for Texas. In his four starts in 2019 as mainly an opener, Chavez has allowed only three hits and no runs while walking none and fanning seven in 6 2/3 innings. He might not go very long initially but will be worth a look in deep mixed and AL-only leagues as a streamer. Give him a look next week in a likely matchup against the lowly Tigers offense.
