Jeff McNeil Not Involved In Deal With Seattle
6 years agoThe New York Mets aren't including second baseman Jeff McNeil in a potential blockbuster trade that would involve Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz. The two teams are closing in on a deal on Thursday night. As of now, the M's would send Cano and Diaz to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Jay Bruce, relief pitcher Anthony Swarzak, pitching prospect Justin Dunn, outfield prospect Jarred Kelenic and relief pitcher Gerson Bautista. It's big trade but isn't finalized yet. Seattle is likely to eat some of the remaining $120 million left on Cano's five-year deal. Bruce is another aging veteran with a high salary, while Kelenic (No. 3) and Dunn (No. 4) are two of the Mets' best prospects. The deal probably won't be made official until Friday. McNeil came out of nowhere to post great numbers for the Mets last year, so perhaps they view him as their second baseman of the future.
