Jean Segura Continues To Bat Near Bottom Of Order
2 years agoMiami Marlins infielder Jean Segura will make his sixth start of the season in Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins at third base, but for the second consecutive game, will bat seventh. The 33-year-old was expected to be a key fixture at the top of the batting order for Skip Schumaker's club, but after batting in the two-hole during the first two contests, he hasn't hit above sixth since. Segura's off to a poor start at the plate, batting .111 with one stolen base and no home runs, runs, or RBI and is striking out 36.8% of the time. There's no chance he'll make his way up the lineup if he fails to pick things up, but the Marlins may prefer having him near the bottom either way, limiting the veteran's chances for counting stats. Without a decent run total, Segura becomes an above-average contributor in stolen bases and average with limited pop.
