Javier Baez Could Go On Bereavement List
1 year agoUpdating a previous report, Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez was scratched from Saturday's starting lineup against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays due to a death in the family. It's possible that he will be placed on the bereavement list by the Tigers, which would cause him to miss another two to three days. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect the 30-year-old infielder to play at all for the rest of the weekend series against the Rays. With Baez out on Saturday, Zack Short is manning the 6 and is hitting eighth against Rays right-hander Aaron Civale. Baez, a two-time All-Star back with the Chicago Cubs in 2018 and 2019, continues to disappoint in 2023 and only has seven home runs and 10 stolen bases while hitting .224 (90-for-402) with a weak .262 on-base percentage.
