Jared Spurgeon To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
10 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon is set to undergo season-ending hip and back surgery. The Wild captain has been sidelined since Jan. 2 and with the Wild sitting at 18-20-5 and seventh in the Central Division, the season-ending decision has been made. Spurgeon's campaign ends after appearing in just 16 games with five assists, 21 shots, 12 hits, 29 blocks, and a plus-five rating under his belt. With Spurgeon lost for the season, the Wild will be able to exceed the salary cap by roughly $7.575 million once Spurgeon's salary is put on long-term injured reserve. Rookie Brock Faber has seen the biggest increase in opportunity in Spurgeon's absence and is the go-to Minnesota defenseman to roster in fantasy hockey.
