Chicago Cubs second base prospect James Triantos enjoyed a big July at Double-A. Through 19 games, the former second-round pick held an excellent .299/.371/.377 line with a 7:9 BB:K ratio, six stolen bases, and 23 total hits. In his past 11 games, he has only gone hitless once and is riding a .364 AVG and .440 OBP. This is a great sign for the 21-year-old as this was yet another dominant month for him. Through 86 games this season, he sits with a .304/.349/.442 line. Triantos is considered the fourth-best prospect in the Chicago system on MLB.com and the 51st-best overall prospect. Triantos should start next summer at Triple-A Iowa and could push for a major league debut.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Chicago Cubs infield prospect James Triantos has held a strong .364 AVG and .417 OBP through the first three contests of the Iowa Cubs season. Triantos has also been busy on the basepaths, swiping three bags. However, he has yet to tally a hit for extra bases. Triantos is considered the No. 5 prospect in a deep Cubs system. MLB Pipeline has Triantos currently as the No. 72-best prospect in the sport. Last season, the former second-round selection spent most of his time at Double-A before receiving a brief taste of Triple-A. Through 89 games with Double-A Tennessee, Triantos posted a stellar .300/.345/.437 slash line with 18 doubles, seven home runs, and an eye-catching 38 stolen bases. During his first 26 games at Triple-A, Triantos held a similar .302/.351/.384 line with nine stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Triantos' power production, as that is the one skill that has yet to translate to the top level of the minor leagues.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

The Chicago Cubs are bringing infield prospects Matt Shaw and James Triantos, and catcher/first baseman Moises Ballesteros to major-league spring training this year as non-roster invites. Per MLB Pipeline, Shaw is ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect in baseball, with Triantos checking in at No. 73, and Ballesteros at No. 69. If the Cubs don't sign free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman, Shaw is expected to be the "leading contender" for starting duties at third base on Opening Day despite having yet to play in the majors. The 23-year-old Shaw hit .284/.379/.488 with 21 homers and 31 steals in the minors in 2024 and could be in play in mixed fantasy leagues in 2025 given his power/speed potential. Ballesteros, 21, has great contact skills from the left side but does have a tendency to chase outside the zone. Triantos, 22, has limited power but stole 47 bags on the farm in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Chicago Cubs second baseman prospect James Triantos is starting to find a groove at Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs promoted the 21-year-old to Iowa last week, and after starting off 0-for-8 over his first two games, he's now hit safely in the last four games, going 6-for-17 (.353) with a pair of stolen bases over that stretch. Triantos had a nice 2023 that earned him an invite to the 2023 Arizona Fall League where he had a phenomenal showing, then posted a .300-7-40-63-38 line in 89 games at Double-A in 2024 which prompted the promotion to Triple-A. It's unclear how the former second-round pick fits into the Cubs' future plans with Nico Hoerner manning second base and Dansby Swanson signed at shortstop, but expect to see him in the majors at some point next season.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

The Chicago Cubs will promote second base prospect James Triantos to Triple-A Iowa. Triantos earns the promotion after hitting .300 with five triples, seven homers, 40 RBI and 38 stolen bases. The 22-year-old doesn't offer much power, but he has very good contact skills that gets him on-base, where is he has the speed to rack up stolen bases. With his lack of power, he does not offer much yet in the fantasy world, but the Cubs No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline is certainly worthy of being added to the watch-list in dynasty leagues. While he is still in between positions in the infield, the Cubs have Michael Busch, Nico Hoerner, Dansby Swanson and Isaac Paredes all locked in for the 2025 season, meaning Triantos would really need to turn heads in Spring Training or an injury to happen to break camp. Either way, his promotion could mean that his big-league debut can come sooner than expected as a utilityman.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
