5 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Jake Diekman was considered an outside candidate to be the team's closer in 2019, but a combination of Ian Kennedy's growth and Diekman's struggles have put that possibility far out of mind. Diekman surrendered a game again on Friday night when he failed to get a single out when entrusted with a two-run lead in the eighth inning against the Twins. Instead, Diekman gave up a lead-off home run followed by a walk and two singles before being lifted from the game. It's the third time Diekman's coughed up a game in his last six outings, and at this point, he's more likely to get sent down or to the Injured List than see an important moment for the team.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
