Jake Diekman Mows Down Blue Jays
5 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Jake Diekman handled an inning's worth of Blue Jays with no sweat on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Diekman was called on to protect a one-run lead in the eighth inning, and he sat down his share of Toronto players in order, striking out two along the way. Diekman's 12th hold before the All-Star break is nice, as is the 13.5 K/9, but he's also been prone to meltdowns this season. Diekman has allowed more than one earned run in appearance three times this month alone, and he hasn't had four straight scoreless outings since the second week of May. Sunday's appearance gave him three scoreless innings in a row. Maybe this next outing will be the one to break the trend.
