Following a rain delay, the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals got underway over 90 minutes later than expected Friday night at Busch Stadium. On the mound was Jake Arrieta, who simply wasn’t at his best, an understatement for the club’s pitching performance on the night. The 32-year-old tossed a pair of shutout innings to begin the game, but ran into major trouble in the third, surrendering four runs. This all came after recording a quick out to begin the frame, which he followed up with a walk and three hits, with a wild pitch and error sandwiched in between. With 64 pitches through three innings, Gabe Kapler went to his bullpen, as Arrieta was charged with the loss. After his exit, the club’s bullpen allowed eight more runs.--RDelgado
