Jacob Waguespack Hopes To Throw A Bullpen This Week
4 months agoTampa Bay Rays right-hander Jacob Waguespack (back, shoulder) received injections in his back on Aug. 5 and was hoping to return to throwing bullpen sessions by Tuesday, Aug. 13. Waguespack was moved to the 60-day injured list on May 18. He suffered a right-shoulder injury during his last outing for Triple-A Durham that wasn't expected to require a significant stint on the shelf, but the Rays gained flexibility by recalling him and placing him on the 15-day IL on May 6. The 30-year-old retired all four batters he faced (three strikeouts) in a start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on June 25 but was then shut down with a lower-back issue, with no timeframe for his return provided. If Waguespack can avoid any further setbacks once he resumes throwing off a mound, he'll have a chance to rejoin the big-league bullpen by the end of the 2024 season.
