Jacob deGrom To Pitch In Game 1 Against Braves
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (shoulder) will pitch in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on Monday. deGrom played catch on Sunday and was telling reporters that he planned on starting on Monday, but it's now official. While it's excellent news that the 33-year-old ace won't have to miss a start after leaving his start last week early after tweaking his shoulder, deGrom will be more risky than usual with the Mets potentially limiting his pitch count in this one as a precaution. Still, the right-hander is hard to sit for any reason, as he's allowed just four earned runs in 67 innings over 11 starts (0.54 ERA). Miraculously, deGrom has struck out 111 and walked only eight this year for a 0.50 WHIP. The two-time Cy Young winner is a freak of nature. Hopefully, he can avoid any further injuries after also dealing with lat and side issues in 2021.
