7 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty was excellent on the mound for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander walked no one and only allowed four hits over 7 1/3 innings of work. The Guardians had no answers for Flaherty as he continued his fantastic second half of the season. Flaherty is now 5-1 with a 2.61 ERA over sevens starts with Los Angeles. He'll look to keep the good times rolling against the Atlanta Braves during his next time out.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 months agoAccording to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the San Diego Padres would target Jack Flaherty or Nick Pivetta in free agency if they trade Dylan Cease or Michael King. Both Cease and King have been around trade discussions throughout the offseason and have begun to see their market begin to heat up over the past week. The Chicago Cubs and New York Mets have been reported to have shown interest in both of these pitchers. However, Heyman noted that if the Padres were to trade one of these, they would look to target a replacement. Last season, Flaherty spent time with the Tigers before moving to Los Angeles to win a World Series. Across 162 frames, Flaherty struck out 194 batters with a 3.17 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. Pivetta logged 145 2/3 innings with a 4.14 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He struck out 172 batters with a strong 6.1% walk rate.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, free agent right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty may opt to sign a short-term contract this offseason. Flaherty has been viewed as one of the top starting pitchers on the market all offseason but has yet to find a suitor. Rosenthal noted that teams may want to see Flaherty post two strong seasons before signing him up for a longer-term contract. Flaherty enjoyed a nice bounce-back season in 2024, posting a 3.17 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP across 162 innings. However, in 2023, he held a 4.99 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. The last time Flaherty posted two straight seasons holding an ERA of 3.50 or less was during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. The 29-year-old carries high strikeout upside in 2025 but carries some risk, given that he has not sustained this success for an extended period of time. If Flaherty were to enjoy another strong season in 2025, he would then be a highly coveted asset on the open market entering the 2026 season.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoFree-agent starting pitcher Jack Flaherty is reportedly unlikely to sign with the Baltimore Orioles. There were reports that the O's were interested in a reunion, but it seems that Flaherty might feel differently. Flaherty struggled during his stint with the O's during the 2023 season. He posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 42/12 K/BB across nine games with the O's. He pitched much better once he left Baltimore. It sounds like the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, and Los Angeles Dodgers are all in the mix for Flaherty. The right-hander might not find a new home until Roki Sasaki signs with an organization.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

3 months agoAfter free-agent right-hander Corbin Burnes signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday, the Baltimore Orioles are looking elsewhere for pitching help and have interest in a possible reunion with free-agent right-hander Jack Flaherty, according to league sources. The O's recently inquired about Flaherty, among others, as they move to their fallback options after failing to re-sign Burnes. Outside of Japanese righty Roki Sasaki, Flaherty is the best starter available on the open market, so Baltimore will likely face competition for Flaherty. He's believed to be seeking at least a five-year deal while coming off a year with the World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers in which he had a 3.17 ERA and 194 K's in 162 innings. Despite having a 6.75 ERA in nine games (seven starts) with the O's in 2023, Flaherty is reportedly interested in a reunion after his bounce-back year in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
