2 years agoWe may be in store for a long reign in the lightweight division with Islam Makhachev dominating former champion Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 280 on Saturday to earn a second-round submission victory. Oliveira, who is the UFC's all-time leader in submission wins, was forced to tap out to Makhachev's arm-triangle choke at the 3:16 point of Round 2. In 8:16 of action, Makhachev tallied 30 significant strikes (72 total strikes), including a big left that dropped Oliveira in the first round. The rumor mill has it that Makhachev will face featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in February.--Matt Bricker
