7 years agoThe Cleveland Indians are reportedly showing interest in San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand. Hand has pitched to a 3.05 ERA and a 65/15 K/BB ratio with 24 saves. He has been named to back-to-back All-Star teams. Cleveland currently ranks 29th in the MLB with a bullpen ERA of 5.28. They're in desperate need of a dominant reliever and Hand certainly fits the bill. Hand is also under team control until 2021 while currently closer Cody Allen and reliever Andrew Miller are free agents after the season. Multiple teams have shown interest in hand yet there's no word if the Padres will trade him. If moved to the Indians he would lose his value as he likely would no longer see save opportunities.--Dan Fappiano

2 years agoThe Colorado Rockies have reached an agreement with free agent relief pitcher Brad Hand. The two sides have agreed on a one-year deal worth $2 million for the 2023 season. This deal also includes a $7 million club option for the 2024 campaign. The left-hander posted a 2.80 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 38/23 K/BB ratio 45 innings with the Philadelphia Phillies last season. This is an odd fit for Hand, but he should immediately become a high-leverage pitcher in Colorado. The three-time All-Star is a significant upgrade to this bullpen, but will really only have fantasy value if he becomes the closer.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Brad Hand was credited with the win in Saturday night's NLCS Game 4, but he hardly deserved it. Hand threw one inning, giving up two runs on a hit and a walk with no strikeouts. In five playoff appearances, Hand has been largely ineffective, with a 7.36 ERA and 1.64 WHIP to his name in 3 2/3 innings. With Philadelphia on the brink of the World Series, Hand figures to play a meaningful role out of the bullpen, largely as a result of the lack of other options.--Doug Goldring

2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies left-handed reliever Brad Hand (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list and is on the team's roster for the National League Wild-Card Series against the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend. Hand was put on the injured list on Sept. 22 with left elbow tendinitis, but he's recovered and will be available out of the bullpen for Game 1 of the series in St. Louis on Friday. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw pitched well for Philadelphia this year, posting a 2.80 ERA (3.94 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, five saves, 13 holds and 38 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. Brad probably won't see any save opportunities in the postseason, but he could be a very important option against lefties late in ballgames.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Brad Hand pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals to earn his fourth save of the year. He retired each of the three batters he faced and only needed eight pitches to get through the inning. The Phillies have been utilizing a closer by committee approach for about a month now, ever since Corey Knebel pitched his way out of the ninth inning role. Hand and Seranthony Dominguez have earned three saves each since Knebel lost his job and Andrew Bellatti has a save over the past month as well. Dominguez pitched the eighth inning on Friday, but their roles were reversed just a day earlier when Hand pitched the eighth and Dominguez closed things out for the save.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
