7 months agoToronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov is getting the start on Monday when the team hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins. It's the fourth start for Samsonov over the last five games as he has regained his grasp on the No. 1 starter's role from Joseph Woll with the latter largely struggling since returning from a high-ankle sprain on Feb. 29. A winner of his last four outings, Samsonov owns a 3.03 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage in 37 games on the season but is still 22-6-7. He has been far better of late, posting a 2.34 GAA and a .926 save percentage in eight March outings, going 6-1-1 in that time. The Maple Leafs sit third in the Atlantic Division with a 44-23-9 record, four points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning for a top-three finish in the division with a game in hand.--Brenton Kemp
