5 years agoKansas City Royals closer Ian Kennedy isn't exactly the second coming of Mariano Rivera, but he's proven to be decent at the job so far. He also seems to recognize that his future as a professional baseball player depends on him excelling in the role. Kennedy told reporters this weekend that he's enjoying the role and the chance to contribute to his team. He seemed self-aware of the fact that he had been bad as a starter, and so the bullpen was his ticket to extending his career. Kennedy is under contract with the Royals through next season, but he's already talking about bouncing around on short-term deals after that. With KC's bullpen in shambles and Kennedy's high price tag, expect him to close out the year for the Royals.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
