Hector Neris Strikes Out Side In Blowout Defeat
6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever and former closer Hector Neris made his second consecutive appearance Thursday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets. The 29-year-old, who lost the closer role and posted a 6.90 ERA en route to being demoted in June, eventually posted a 1.45 ERA with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. After putting forth a scoreless outing on Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox, he entered with the Phillies down by 10 runs. Neris would be the first bright spot of the game for the pitching staff, recording a perfect inning and striking out the side. While it’s way too early to tell if he managed to fix his issues in the minor leagues, he could become an instrumental part of the bullpen once again.
