Hector Neris Blows Save As Phillies Win Streak Snapped
7 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies carried a four-game winning streak into Friday’s series opener against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. After Jake Arrieta tossed seven masterful innings, the home club maintained a one-run lead heading into the ninth. Manager Gabe Kapler called on closer Hector Neris to ensure victory, but the Dominican native failed spectacularly. The 28-year-old picked up a quick out but allowed a single and consecutive home runs to put his club in a two-run hole. It was Neris’ third blown save of the season, as a lack of trust along with a skyrocketing ERA could very well put his spot as closer in danger. On the night, he took the loss, his third of the season.
