Guardians Agree To Minor-League Deal With Phillip Diehl
2 years agoAccording to a tweet from FanSided's Robert Murray on Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians have reportedly agreed to a minor-league deal with relief pitcher Phillip Diehl. Murray tweeted the following: "Left-hander Phillip Diehl is in agreement on a minor-league contract with the Cleveland Guardians, source said. Diehl, who spent time with the Reds and Mets last season, gets an invite to spring training." Diehl allowed eight hits, seven earned runs, three home runs, and three walks while striking out three batters in 5.2 innings of work in the Majors for Cincinnati during the 2022 season. He'll give the Guardians some additional bullpen depth heading into the 2023 season. As of right now, Cleveland's late-inning bullpen options alongside closer Emmanuel Clase include the likes of Trevor Stephan, Sam Hentges, James Jarinchak, Eli Morgan, Enyel De Los Santos, and Nick Sandlin.
