Greg Holland Pitches Eighth Inning, Earns A Hold
4 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Greg Holland spent multiple days on the injured list for unspecified reasons. He was activated from the injured list on Saturday, but didn't make his return to the mound until Monday. Holland entered Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers in the eighth inning while the team was up 3-2. He pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out two. He then gave way to Josh Staumont, who came on for the save. It was Staumont's second save in three days. Holland has mostly been solid this year apart from two rough outings that have inflated his numbers. He's converted each of his two save opportunities and should be considered the primary closer amidst a bit of a committee in Kansas City. However, Staumont, who has a stellar 0.75 ERA and 0.67 WHIP over 12 innings, is knocking on the door.
