Greg Bird's Roster-Spot Chances Increase
6 years agoIn the aftermath of New York Yankees infielder Tyler Wade's demotion to Triple-A, the possibility that the Yankees could carry two players currently engaged in a position battle increased. Luke Voit and Greg Bird are currently battling it out for the starting job at first base, but it was assumed that only one would make the roster due to Wade's strong chances of being with the big league club to start the season. Now, however, it appears that even after outfielder Aaron Hicks returns from his injury, there will be two spots for both Voit and Bird. Bird lost out on the starting job last season after injuries and poor play, allowing Voit to swoop in during the latter part of the campaign. The 26-year-old has hit .316 this Spring, with three home runs and nine RBI in 18 games.
