Goalie Michael Hutchinson Signs With Florida Panthers
6 years agoThe Florida Panthers announced Sunday the signing of 28-year-old goaltender Michael Hutchinson to a one-year, one-way contract with a salary cap hit of $1.3 million. Hutchinson has spent the last five seasons with the Winnipeg Jets franchise and has had success at both the NHL and AHL levels. The Panthers still have goalies James Reimer and Roberto Luongo under contract for three and four more years, respectively, so this certainly appears to be a depth signing. Hutchinson was excellent for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose last season, garnering a 17-5-1 record with a .935 save percentage and 2.08 goals-against average and was named to the AHL’s second All-Star team. As it would appear Hutchinson will again spend time in the AHL, his fantasy value is hampered, but he could provide owners with a streaming option should either Reimer or Luongo miss time next season.
