Giovanny Gallegos To Make Another Rehab Appearance Friday
6 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-handed reliever Giovanny Gallegos (shoulder) will throw another inning in a minor-league rehab appearance with Double-A Springfield on Friday, according to manager Oliver Marmol. This will be Gallegos' sixth rehab appearance since going on the 15-day injured list on May 6 with a right-shoulder impingement. In his 5 2/3 innings of work on the farm, the 32-year-old veteran reliever has allowed five earned runs on six hits (three home runs) while walking four and striking out four, so he hasn't been all that effective. However, he hasn't given up any runs his last two times out. In nine relief innings in St. Louis before his injury, Gallegos allowed 12 earned runs on 14 hits (five homers) while walking seven and striking out 13. The Cardinals will be hoping he'll be more effective in a late-inning setup role when he returns from the injured list.
