4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos pitched a perfect inning in Sunday's Grapefruit League Opening Day, striking out two. Gallegos threw 12 pitches, eight for strikes in a dominant inning as the Cardinals and Nationals played to a 4-4 tie. Gallegos has been excellent over the past two seasons, combining for a 2.53 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a fantastic 114:20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 89 innings. He'll likely start the season as the Cardinals closer, but if Jordan Hicks is healthy (he hasn't pitched since 2019) he could work his way into the ninth inning role as well. Gallegos is somewhat risky in standard leagues but an excellent target in SVHD formats.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
