Giovanny Gallegos Collects Save On Monday
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos earned his third save of the season on Monday during a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The 30-year-old struck out one and only needed 14 pitches to nail down the victory. Given the struggles of All-Star closer Alex Reyes in the second half of the season, it appears the Cardinals are trending towards using a matchup-based approach for the time being in the ninth inning. With a 3.02 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 74 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings, Gallegos warrants a priority add in case manager Mike Shildt decides to install a permanent closer.
