Giants Re-Sign Chadwick Tromp
4 years agoThe San Francisco Giants re-signed catcher Chadwick Tromp to a major league deal on Wednesday a week after non-tendering the Aruban rookie. Tromp is now back in the mix to open next season as a backup to Buster Posey, with the team indicating that they could start top prospect Joey Bart at Triple-A Sacramento to give him more time to develop. The 25-year-old Tromp spent his first seven seasons in the minors with the Reds before signing a minor league deal with San Fran last winter. He was a standout in summer camp and earned a chance as the backup catcher by hitting .213 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 24 games. Tromp became the personal catcher for right-hander Johnny Cueto. The Giants could seek more catching depth this offseason after Tyler Heineman joined the Cardinals and Aramis Garcia was claimed off waivers by the Rangers.
