Giants Interested In Starling Marte?
3 years agoOne of the key teams to watch in the pursuit of Miami Marlins outfielder Starling Marte is the San Francisco Giants, according to sources. Marte and the Marlins were unable to agree to a contract extension, so he's expected to be dealt at the deadline. Miami was willing to go as far as three years and $40 million for Marte, but he is seeking a four-year deal and told the team there would be no extension talks after the All-Star break. The 32-year-old would fill a gaping hole in center field in San Francisco, and the Giants have the prospect capital to get a deal done. Marte is unlikely to fetch a prospect like Heliot Ramos, since he'll be a free agent at the end of the year, but Ramos is a name to watch at the trade deadline as well. Marte has been slumping of late, but overall he's been excellent with a .290/.391/.449 slash line, seven home runs, 49 runs, 22 RBI and 19 stolen bases. A move to the Gigantes could give the outfielder a slight fantasy boost.
