Giants Don't Plan To Limit Andrew Suarez, Dereck Rodriguez
6 years agoThe San Francisco Giants don't plan to give either starting pitcher Andrew Suarez or Dereck Rodriguez a breather down the stretch with both pitchers set to exceed their career highs in innings pitched in a single season. “If they made every start, you’re looking at 180 innings for these guys, and that’s where you would want to get them,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re comfortable not skipping them or having to back off right now. Now, that could change in a month if they’re showing signs that they could use a break, but there’s no plan to back off either of them.” Pitching coach Curt Young said both pitchers are scheduled for up to 13 starts in the second half, which would mean roughly 78 more innings for each. Both pitchers have been pleasant surprises for the Giants, with Rodriguez sporting a 2.89 ERA and Suarez with a 3.94 ERA. The team's plans could change if either pitcher shows signs of tiring down the stretch, but for now they will both continue to be acceptable streamers in deep mixed and NL-only affairs.
