Gary Sanchez Homers Twice In Rehab Games
6 years agoAs the New York Yankees get set to begin the second half of the season, their starting catcher is inching closer towards a return. Gary Sanchez has played a pair of rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this week and has picked up two hits in eight plate appearances. Both have been home runs, while he’s played seven innings behind the plate in one game while serving as DH in another. In Sanchez’s absence, Austin Romine has emerged from backup to regular starter, while Kyle Higashioka has been the backup. While the former All-Star struggled mightily in the first half, he’s been historically better in the second half of the season, hitting .289 after the All-Star break, as opposed to .229 before.
