Garrett Richards May Have New Repertoire Wednesday
4 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Richards abandoned his curveball in his last outing against the Atlanta Braves and could use a new repertoire in his start on Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. Richards has primarily thrown three pitches -- a fastball (58.2%), slider (26.2%) and curveball (15.1%) -- but he might start mixing in a two-seam fastball and a changeup. Because of the crackdown on sticky substances by MLB, pitchers have had to abandon pitches they can no longer grip. The veteran right-hander allowed four earned runs in four innings against the Braves his last time out and has now allowed eight earned runs in 9 1/3 innings in his last two starts against Atlanta and the Toronto Blue Jays. With Richards potentially experimenting with a new arsenal against the Rays, we wouldn't risk him in your DFS lineups.
