First Goal of Season by Mikko Koivu Helps Wild Over Kings
5 years agoMinnesota Wild forward Mikko Koivu tallied a goal in the third period of Saturday's 5-1 win against the Kings. The 15-year veteran scored his first of the year, and now has five points and 27 shots for the season. Koivu has a career 9.1 shooting percentage, and was able to match that with a 9.0 percent mark last year, but has struggled so far this season managing a lowly 3.7 percent shooting percentage through 11 games. Koivu has not finished a season with a shooting percentage under 7.5 percent since his rookie season, so there is plenty of reason to believe that his scoring touch will return as the season continues. That being said, Koivu has not broken 20 goals in any of the last nine seasons and creates most of his fantasy value through assists and power-play points.
