8 months agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. (thigh, quadriceps) has begun going through baseball activities, including long toss, but remains without a timetable. Manager Mike Shildt expressed that the 25-year-old is "taking those next steps" but did not suggest any potential return window. However, Shildt did note that when he ramps up, he will get ready quickly. Tatis hit the 10-day injured list last June and was eventually shifted to the 60-day IL due to a femoral stress reaction. Before the injury, the budding star was enjoying a nice season as he boasted a .279/.354/.468 line with 14 home runs and eight stolen bases. He posted an elite 13.9% barrel rate and 53.8% hard-hit rate. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Tatis on their injured reserve, as he could push your team over the edge if he returns sometime next month.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. (illness) is back in camp after missing a few days while battling the flu, according to MLB.com's AJ Cassavell. Tatis will likely have a light day on Wednesday as he builds back up, according to manager Mike Shildt. It' unclear when the 26-year-old will make his Cactus League debut, but there's no rush with Opening Day not until late March. The former shortstop made the All-Star team for the second time in his career in 2024 and finished with a .276/.340/.492 slash line, .833 OPS, 21 home runs, 49 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 64 runs in 102 games. A stress reaction in his right quadriceps cost him two-plus months and was also likely the reason why his stolen base production dropped. Fantasy managers can't expect Tatis to ever approach his career-high 42 homers again after his PED suspension, but his power/speed upside still makes him a top-15 overall player.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoMLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports that San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. (illness) is still dealing with an illness, and it's unclear when he'll make his Cactus League debut. "He's going to require a little bit more recovery," manager Mike Shildt said. It's still early in spring training, so fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned about the 26-year-old All-Star not being ready for Opening Day at the end of March. We probably should never expect Tatis to put up the numbers he did in 2022 before he was suspended for performance-enhancing drugs, but his stolen base numbers could be on the rise again after he suffered a stress reaction in his right quadriceps last year that cost him two-plus months. When healthy, Tatis is still one of the best power/speed threats in all of baseball, making him worthy of a selection late in the first round or early in the second round of upcoming drafts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

6 months agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. continued his torrid offensive postseason in Tuesday's National League Division Series Game 3 6-5 win over the Dodgers. Tatis Jr. went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run. The 25-year-old capped off a six-run second inning, obliterating an 0-2 Walker Buehler fastball into the left-field seats. Tatis Jr. put together a solid offensive regular season and has been on fire in the postseason, batting .556 with four HR and seven RBI in 18 at-bats. The Padres' lineup has performed well throughout the playoffs as well, making Tatis Jr. a standout DFS play.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

6 months agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. bashed two homers en route to a 10-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLDS on Sunday. Tatis finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI. Not a bad day at the office. He was also hit by a pitch by Jack Flaherty after homering and doubling off him, which caused some fireworks. The Dodgers can't seem to get Tatis out, as he has gone 5-for-8 in the first two games of this series and is now sitting at a ridiculous 9-for-14 in the playoffs as a whole. He is making an early bid for playoff MVP, although there is obviously a long way to go yet.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
