Fernando Tatis Jr. Homers In Winter Ball
6 years agoSan Diego Padres infield prospect Fernando Tatis Jr. (thumb), who suffered an avulsion fracture in his left thumb in the minor leagues in July, hit a home run in his first at-bat in winter ball for Estrella in the Dominican Republic. The 19-year-old shortstop is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball and had 16 home runs, 43 RBI and 16 stolen bases while hitting .286/.355/.507 in 88 games for Double-A San Antonio before his injury. He should receive an invite to big league spring training, but his injury likely ensures he'll begin in the minor leagues in 2019. Tatis should already be owned in all dynasty/keeper leagues and is worth a late-round pick as a stash in deep leagues next year as well. He should be up in the big leagues at some point next season, barring a setback with his thumb.
