Fernando Rodney Rights The Ship With 18th Save Thursday
6 years agoAfter blowing two consecutive saves, Minnesota Twins closer Fernando Rodney was able to secure his team's victory on Thursday. The Twins beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2, and Rodney earned his 18th save of the season. He came in the game in the ninth inning and struck out the struggling Chris Davis to start his outing. He then got Danny Valencia to ground out and struck out Jonathan Schoop to end the game. The Twins played a clean game, riding the coattails of starting pitcher Aaron Slegers' strong six-inning performance. Rodney has been this kind of closer throughout his career; he'll go on sparkling streaks and then blow saves in bunches before getting things in order again. Owners should keep him plugged into lineups, though he doesn't get many chances on this struggling Twins team.
