Fernando Rodney Earns 21st Save On Thursday
6 years agoMinnesota Twins closer Fernando Rodney secured his 21st save of the season, closing out a 5-1 Twins victory on Thursday. Rodney came in the ninth inning after reliever Ryan Pressly loaded the bases. Rodney then induced a ground ball out at home, and then the veteran struck out Matt Duffy to end the game. Rodney has now sealed the deal in four straight save opportunities. That said, Rodney has become the subject of many trade rumors, with one linking him to the Boston Red Sox, who already have elite closer Craig Kimbrel. If he does indeed get traded to a contender with an established closer, Rodney could be reduced to taking a setup man role. While he has been effective as a closer for the Twins, his future as one remains uncertain until after the All-Star break. The Twins might consider keeping him if they think they have a chance in the American League Central. That said, fantasy players may consider selling Rodney at this point in the season, while his value is still solid.
