4 years agoSeattle Mariners first baseman Evan White (hip) isn't close to resuming baseball activities. White currently holds a spot on the 60-day injured list, and after suffering a setback during a rehab stint with Triple-A Tacoma, it now appears it may be a while before he is back on the field. The 25-year-old hasn't lived up to expectations throughout his nearly two seasons in the big club, batting a miserable .167 throughout 276 at-bats. At this point, he can be dropped in everything outside of dynasty formats.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

1 year agoAtlanta Braves first baseman Evan White has been outrighted off the club's 40-man roster and has been assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett. The move comes on the heels of a one-year, non-guaranteed split contract given to relief pitcher Angel Perdomo. White was acquired as part of this week's trade for Jarred Kelenic while the 27-year-old is still owed $17 million from the six-year, $24 million contract he signed with the Seattle Mariners prior to his MLB debut. Despite his early extension, White has struggled mightily at the plate in the big leagues as he's logged a .165 average with 10 home runs and one stolen base across 306 plate appearances and has not appeared in the majors since the 2021 season. He would forfeit his remaining salary should he reject the outright assignment so expect White to begin the 2024 season in Gwinnett.--Brenton Kemp

1 year agoThe Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-hander Marco Gonzales and first baseman Evan White from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night in exchange for pitchers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips. Kelenic, a former top prospect, struggled in his three seasons with Seattle. However, he was having his best year in 2023 before fracturing his toe when he kicked a water cooler in the dugout in frustration. The 24-year-old will have some sleeper appeal with the move to Atlanta, and he should start regularly in left field against right-handed pitching. Gonzales, 31, struggled to an ERA over 5.00 in 2023 and made only 10 starts due to surgery on his left forearm. White, 27, who hasn't played in the big leagues the last two years, was mainly a salary dump for the M's. He has season-ending hip surgery in May.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoSeattle Mariners first baseman Evan White (hip) is expected to be ready for the beginning of spring training. The 27-year-old hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2021 due to multiple injuries. When healthy, White slashed .165/.235/.308 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 84 games across parts of two seasons with the Mariners. White is a former top prospect, but has never fully put it together at the MLB level. Hopefully, he'll be able to get back on track starting in spring training.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 years agoSeattle Mariners first baseman Evan White (hip) had surgery on his hip on Monday. The procedure reportedly went well as White had surgery to release a tendon that was impinging his hip joint while also getting some scar tissue cleaned up. White's early timetable calls for him to miss about three months, meaning it will be close to September by the time he is able to return. He is unlikely to be a fantasy option until the 2024 season at the earliest.--Matt T - RotoBaller
