Evan Phillips Takes Loss Sunday
Evan Phillips took his first loss of the season on Sunday, allowing the game-winning run to score in a 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees. Phillips was tasked with pitching the eighth inning of a tie game in this one, but couldn't keep the Yanks at bay, allowing a walk and a double. The righty now has a still sparkling 1.99 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 22 ⅔ IP. Interestingly, Phillips hasn't gotten a save since May 12, even though he had four in seven days prior to that. The Dodgers aren't afraid to use him early in games when they feel the situation calls for it. Still, Phillips appears to be their most trusted reliever and should be owned in any league where saves matter.

Evan Phillips Hits 15-Day Injured List With Forearm Discomfort
Evan Phillips (forearm) on the 15-day injured list with right forearm discomfort. Phillips opened the campaign on the injured list due to a shoulder strain but will be sidelined for another period. Phillips has logged just five 2/3 innings of work this season. He did not allow a run and struck out six batters with a solid 1.06 WHIP. He has tallied two holds being deployed as a high-leverage relief option. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but given this injury, Phillips could be sidelined for an extended period. While he is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates, and Alex Vesia to see most of the high-leverage opportunities in the Dodger bullpen. However, Scott remains the top option for saves.

Evan Phillips Expected To Be Activated Next Week
Evan Phillips (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the roster for their series against the Chicago Cubs. Phillips has been working his way back from a shoulder strain that kept him sidelined for part of the postseason last season. He began the season on the 15-day injured list, but he appears almost ready to return. Phillips hasn't posted pretty numbers during his rehab assignment, but those stats don't matter too much. The Dodgers are hopeful that Phillips can slide right back into his role as a high-leverage option at the back-end of this bullpen.

Evan Phillips "Close" To A Return
Evan Phillips (shoulder) made his fourth minor-league rehab appearance on Friday and is "close" to a return, according to manager Dave Roberts. Phillips is scheduled to make another rehab appearance on Tuesday. The 30-year-old veteran is recovering from a torn muscle in his rotator cuff and began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on April 3. In four appearances so far for OKC, Phillips has allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out six in 3 2/3 innings of work. Barring a setback, it appears that he'll rejoin L.A.'s bullpen and make his 2025 season debut before the end of April. Phillips recorded 42 total saves for the Dodgers in the last two seasons, but after they added firepower to the back end of their bullpen in the offseason, he's expected to be used as more of a setup man when he returns.

Tony Gonsolin, Evan Phillips Starting Rehab Assignments
Tony Gonsolin (back) and Evan Phillips (shoulder) are both scheduled to begin minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. Gonsolin is scheduled to start on Thursday and pitch around two innings. Gonsolin is recovering from a back injury that he suffered in early March while lifting weights, but both he and Phillips are getting close to rejoining the big-league roster in the month of April. Given L.A.'s stacked starting rotation, though, it's unclear if the 30-year-old Gonsolin will serve as a starter or long reliever for the Blue when he's cleared to be activated. Phillips, 30, didn't pitch at all during spring training due to a right-shoulder injury that had been bothering him since the World Series last October. He led the Dodgers in saves the last two years but has lost considerable fantasy value after the team added Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates to the bullpen in the offseason.
