Six-time NHL All-Star Eric Staal announced his retirement from hockey on Tuesday. He signed a one-day contract with the Carolina Hurricanes to retire as a member of the franchise that originally drafted him and whom he helped win the Stanley Cup in 2006. Staal spent 12 seasons with the Hurricanes before finishing his career as a journeyman. The talented centerman also suited up for the New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, and Florida Panthers. Staal last played in the NHL in 2022-23, reaching the Stanley Cup Final with the Panthers. He collected 1,063 points (455 goals, 608 assists) in 1,365 regular-season games. Having won the World Championship in 2007 and the Olympics in 2010, Staal is one of only 11 Canadian players in the Triple Gold Club. The Hurricanes plan to retire No. 12 in honor of Staal next season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerRead More News
