Eric Lauer Breezes Past Giants
San Diego Padres starter Eric Lauer cruised for six innings in Thursday’s victory against the San Francisco Giants. After receiving the surprise nod for Opening Day, the 23-year-old fired a gem, allowing zero runs, four hits and a walk while striking out three. Lauer was in control all game as he outdueled Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, requiring only 70 pitches before yielding to the bullpen. After a turbulent start to his career, Lauer will look to build off a strong finish last season to help steer a young and inexperienced Padres rotation with low expectations. He’ll be on the streaming radar next Tuesday when the Friars host the Arizona Diamondbacks.
