Emmanuel Rivera Designated For Assignment
3 months agoThe Miami Marlins designated infielder Emmanuel Rivera for assignment on Monday and recalled infield prospect Connor Norby from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. The Marlins also recalled right-handers Adam Oller and George Soriano from Jacksonville to begin the week. Norby is the team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and was acquired in the trade in late July that sent Trevor Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles. The 28-year-old was already not playing all that much before the arrival of Norby, so he'll now be dumped from the 40-man roster. The Puerto Rican infielder played in 96 games for the Fish this year and hit just .214/.294/.269 with a career-worst .563 OPS, only one home run, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored in 229 plate appearances. Rivera is likely to pass through waivers unclaimed and could accept an outright assignment to Jacksonville.
