Emmanuel Clase Suspended 80 Games
5 years agoCleveland Indians relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase was suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball on Friday for testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance. Clase came over from the Rangers in the trade involving starting pitcher Corey Kluber over the winter. The 22-year-old tested positive for Boldenone, which is an anabolic steroid. Clase's suspension won't begin until the start of the 2020 regular season. If the season doesn't cover 80 games because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the league and player's association are still working out if it will carry over into 2021. The right-hander was expected to be a big part of the bullpen in the late innings for the Tribe this year after going 2-3 with a 2.31 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings for Texas last year. You can pretty much ignore him now if you were considering him as a sleeper for saves in deeper fantasy leagues in 2020.
