Edwin Encarnacion Heading To Seattle
6 years agoThe Seattle Mariners will acquire designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion and a compensatory Round B selection from the Cleveland Indians on Thursday in exchange for first baseman Carlos Santana in a three-team deal also involving the Rays. E5 can also play some first base, but he'll likely serve mostly as a DH in Seattle. He'll turn 36 years old next month and hit .246/.336/.474 with 32 home runs, 107 RBI and 74 runs scored last season. It's a curious move for a team that is rebuilding. Encarnacion can still slug homers but isn't getting any younger and is now moving to a team that will have a much weaker lineup in 2019. He's essentially taking the spot of Nelson Cruz, who is a free agent.
