Edwin Diaz Earns One-Out Save Tuesday
4 months agoNew York Mets closer Edwin Diaz picked up his ninth save of the season in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Nationals. Diaz came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by three with two outs and a runner on first. The runner advanced to second on defensive indifference and scored on a wild pitch. However, Diaz then shut the door by striking out CJ Abrams. The 30-year-old was considered one of fantasy's top closers for this season, but he has dealt with a banned-substance suspension and a shoulder injury earlier in the season. He has only converted nine of 14 save opportunities with a 4.21 ERA, a 12.62 K/9 rate, and a 2.81 BB/9 rate. While he has disappointed overall, Diaz has been a top-tier fantasy closer throughout his career and has not allowed a run since returning from his suspension in the middle of June.
