Edwin Diaz Earns 52nd Save
6 years agoSeattle Mariners closer Edwin Diaz earned his 52nd save of the season as the Mariners edged the Orioles 2-1 on Sunday. Diaz now carries a 0.69 WHIP over his last 30 1/3 innings pitched and still has a shot at the all-time record for regular season saves of 62 by Francisco Rodriguez in 2008. The right-hander is averaging 15.43 K/9 and is holding opponents to a .159 batting average this season. The 24-year-old is having a season for the ages and should continue to see plenty of save opportunities as the Mariners try and chase down a playoff spot over the next month.
