Edwin Diaz Blows Save, Charged With Fifth Loss
5 years agoA wild finish to Thursday's game between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies ended in the worst way possible for Mets closer Edwin Diaz. The Mets took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but Diaz imploded, allowing two home runs and a total of five earned runs while recording just one out. This was the fourth blown save on the year for Diaz, whose ERA ballooned up from 3.52 to 4.94 after the game. There isn't really much that Diaz owners can do at this point. Diaz had elite reliever numbers in Seattle the past three years and there's been no member of the Mets bullpen who has inspired more confidence this year than Diaz, with Jeurys Familia and Robert Gsellman also struggling. Keep throwing him out there in the hope that he'll turn it around sooner rather than later.
