Dylan Cease Takes Loss Wednesday Despite Quality Start
6 months agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Cease went six innings in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels, allowing three earned runs on four hits (two HR) and one walk while striking out six. The righty gave up a solo home run to the first batter he saw, Nolan Schanuel, and another two-run shot to Zach Neto in the second inning, but settled in and allowed just one hit to the final 15 batters he faced. Despite the 5-5 record, Cease has pitched well for the Padres, posting a 3.51 ERA (2.97 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, and a strong 23.3% K-BB% over 77 IP. The former Cy Young runner-up will get a favorable matchup against a scrappy Oakland Athletics team next Tuesday at home.
