3 years agoSan Diego Padres left-handed reliever Drew Pomeranz (lat) threw a bullpen session for the first time since he sustained tightness in his left lat. Pomeranz was nearing a return from a shoulder impingement last month before he suffered his lat injury. Manager Jayce Tingler said Pomeranz would throw at least one more bullpen session before facing live hitters. However, it's unclear when Pomeranz might begin a rehab assignment. The 32-year-old lefty has been great for the Friars in relief, posting a 1.98 ERA and 1.17 WHIP while fanning 20 and walking seven in 14 relief outings over 13 2/3 innings this year. He's nearing a return after not appearing since May 9, but with Mark Melancon locking down the ninth-inning duties in the Padres bullpen, expect Pomeranz to serve in more of a setup role whenever he's back.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
