Drew Pomeranz Has Cleanup Surgery
1 year agoSan Diego Padres left-handed reliever Drew Pomeranz (elbow) had what manager Bob Melvin described as "a cleanup surgery in his elbow" on Tuesday. There is no timetable for Pomeranz's return, but Melvin said the expectation is that the rehab won't be all that long. The Padres are still hopeful that he'll be able to pitch meaningful innings down the stretch in 2023. It's good news all things considered, but the oft-injured 34-year-old southpaw is also a pretty slow healer, so there's no guarantee he'll be back this year. Pomeranz also seems to be rehabbing from something and hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2021. His absence so far this year hasn't helped a Friars bullpen that has been a weak spot to this point.
